Tour Leader

Cayley - Ski Tour Leader

Meet Cayley, the new Tour Leader for the 2020 Ladies Ski Japan Tour. Cayley has been riding for the better part of 9 years now. Coming into the sport a little later, but has definitely made up for lost time, doing back to back winters for a number of years, bouncing between New Zealand, Japan and USA and Canada, though New Zealand (Wanaka) is where she calls home these days.

“I love being surrounded by the mountains all winter and escaping to the coast when I can in the summers. (I can’t really call myself a surfer yet, but it’s a working progress.) If I’m not in on a mountain or in the ocean you’ll find me at the skate park. I picked up skateboarding a few years ago, when a few girlfriends and myself all learnt to skate together. And if you think I do all of these sports without falling over a substantial amount you’d be so wrong, the one thing I do consistently other than standing sideways is yoga to help with that. It keeps me fit, helps with trying new grabs and thinking a bit more logically when I’m trying something scary on my snowboard. Finishing my yoga teacher training in India 2 years ago, I’ve loved teaching my friends (most of whom are snowboarders or skaters) and introducing new people to the practice.” – Cayley

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an expert skier/rider to join the trip?

No, we will cater for all ability levels. We will do our best to ski/board with every level of ability throughout the stay, but we may have to split our time across the various groups each day.

What if I’m a skier?

We don’t discriminate against your chosen discipline. Nozawa Onsen has no restrictions on skiing or boarding.

I’m a single traveller, can I still come?

Absolutely. We can either match you up with another single traveller or you can pay the single supplement and have a room to yourself.

What are the payment terms for the trip? Can I pay it off?

We have multiple payment options, including Q Card 12 months interest free. A deposit of $700 per person is require at time of booking and you can continue to pay in instalments up to the final payment due date of 28 October. We can accept credit card or internet banking/direct credit. If you choose to pay by Q Card, your account will be debited the full balance of the trip and your interest free term will start from the day you book.

I don’t have my own gear, can I rent?

Yes. We can arrange rental for you, please ask your Active Travel Expert to add this to your proposal.

I want more days skiing, can you help?

We can definitely add in more days skiing if you wish. Just let us know at time of quoting.

Can we extend our stay in Tokyo at the end?

You sure can! Just let your Active Travel Expert know how long you would like to extend so we can organize the most suitable flights for you.

Do I have to be a certain age?

Not at all. If you are over 18 years of age and up for the skiing/riding and ready to explore the Japanese culture with Kimberley Western, you will fit in just fine.

What will Kimberley be doing while we are travelling?

She will be doing the same things as you! Enjoying the slopes, bars, restaurants and hanging out with the group. Please remember that our host is not an instructor and she is there to ski/board with you and have a good time.

Can we do our own thing?

Of course! There is no requirement for you to participate in anything that is organised along the way. Your time is free to fill with what you wish. However we will encourage you to come along!

Do I need travel insurance?

travel&co highly recommends a comprehensive travel insurance policy to cover you for any accident that you might have while on the slopes. We can offer you a great policy that will cover you for everything you need. Please contact travel&co to get this included in your proposal.

Is there a maximum number travelling on the group?

We have limited this to the first 9 people (excluding your tour leader Kimberley).

Is this trip for New Zealanders only?

Not at all. Anyone travelling from anywhere in the world is welcome to travel on this trip. Note that we are only able to charge customers in Australian & New Zealand Dollars, however can charge credit cards and accept wire transfers internationally (all fees/charges are accepted by the customer).

I can’t go on these dates, will you be running any other departures?

For now, this will be the only departure for 2020. However, we would love to make this an annual event and choose new and exciting destinations each year! So watch this space… sign up to the travel&co database, Ballistics database, and follow Ballistics on Instagram to stay updated.

Best to speak with your Active Travel Expert. They can assist with the best priced options and ensure you arrive and depart at the right times.

Are any meals included on the trip?

Breakfast is included daily.

What is the policy on tipping?

This is not a requirement in Japan and is optional. But please feel free to tip anyone who provides you with a great service.

How much spending money should I take?

Everyone is different but we would normally suggest around $100 per person per day to cover your expenses. Maybe a little more if you are prone to a bit of shopping or extra activities!
